Siding & Exteriors

Siding that survives thirty Illinois winters.

James Hardie fiber cement, LP SmartSide engineered wood, premium vinyl. Full tear-off, rainscreen detail, manufacturer-certified install — so the wall system underneath lasts as long as the siding in front of it.

Wall System

Siding isn't about looks.

A storm claim isn't one conversation — it's a dozen. Each one has a form, a deadline, a line of Xactimate code, and a carrier-specific rule you've never heard of. Homeowners leave money in the claim because they never supplement for missed line items, never recover depreciation after install, and never dispute the specific code-upgrade exclusions in the policy. We run the paperwork so you don't.

  • Full tear-off to the sheathing — no over-siding
  • ZIP System or Tyvek wrap properly lapped and taped
  • Flashing tape at every window, door, and penetration
  • Rainscreen furring strips for drainage plane and drying
  • Factory-spec fastener schedule, corrosion-rated for IL–WI
  • Caulk joints that move — manufacturer-approved sealants
Products

Three siding systems.

Fiber cement, engineered wood, vinyl. Each is the right answer for some homes and the wrong one for others — we'll walk you through the tradeoff.
Fiber Cement · Flagship

James Hardie ColorPlus

The gold standard for fiber cement. Factory-baked ColorPlus finish, 15-year paint warranty, non-combustible and pest-proof.

Engineered Wood

LP SmartSide

Treated engineered wood — lighter than Hardie, warmer look, 5/16" and 7/16" profiles. 50-year substrate warranty.

Vinyl · Premium

CertainTeed Cedar Impressions

Heavy-gauge vinyl shake and scallop profiles. When the HOA or budget calls for vinyl, this is the only tier we install.

Weather Barrier

Tyvek HomeWrap & ZIP System

House wrap lapped shingle-style or ZIP sheathing with taped seams. Either way, the wall breathes and the water leaves.

Trim & Accents

Hardie Trim & Azek

Cellular PVC at grade, HardieTrim at windows and corners. Clean miters, color-matched caulk, no exposed end-grain.

Design

Color consult on site

We bring ColorPlus samples to the house, hold them against the roof and masonry, and photograph the combos in daylight.

Install Process

Two-week installs on most homes.

Siding is a longer project than roofing — but a predictable one. Four phases, weather-sequenced so the wall is never exposed overnight.

1

Measure

Walk the house with ColorPlus samples. Detailed takeoff and product selection in one visit.

2

Quote

Line-item estimate — sheathing, wrap, siding, trim, paint, labor. No lump-sum mystery pricing.

3

Install

Tear-off side by side, dry-in same day. Sheathing, wrap, flashing, rainscreen, siding, trim, caulk — sequenced.

4

Walkthrough

Final inspection, touch-up paint kit left on site, Hardie warranty registration submitted.

Frequently Asked

Siding FAQ.

How much does new siding cost?
James Hardie ColorPlus on a 2,400 sq ft home runs $28,000–$45,000 installed, depending on wall height, trim complexity, and tear-off condition. Vinyl comes in around half. We line-item every quote so you can see the math.
How long does a siding install take?
Most single-family homes are 8–12 working days, weather-dependent. Larger or heavily-trimmed houses run two to three weeks. We never leave the house open to weather overnight.
Hardie vs. LP SmartSide — which is better?
Both are excellent. Hardie is heavier, fully non-combustible, and holds paint slightly longer. LP is lighter (easier on the framing), looks warmer close-up, and is cheaper per square foot. We install both — the right answer depends on your house, not our preference.
Can you match the existing trim profile?
Usually, yes. We mill custom PVC and Hardie trim profiles to match historic detail when the home calls for it. Bring photos to the consult and we'll tell you what's reproducible.
Is insulation included?
R-3 continuous exterior rigid foam is an optional add at the sheathing layer — an energy code upgrade that also improves the drainage plane. We'll quote it both ways.
